Bolly Composite Undercarriages are built from a high temperature epoxy (they will not wilt on a hot day), and combinations of (primarily) Carbon Fibre plus where appropriate some Glass & Aramid fibres. The construction is predominately via rovings running lengthwise with cloth reinforcement in the bolt areas. Such a construction method isn't the prettiest, but it is the most effective.
Thin and airfoiled for low drag, although several smaller UC are flat plate style with rounded edges.
Note : It is quite OK to cut our F3A gear in half and space apart to fit different fuselage widths.
New size soon, F3A Winged is in pre production. It is the latest in "canard" style UC to aid low speed stability. It's introduction has been delayed due to the original moulds being damaged.
The above picture is of the F3A Standard gear plus an older style (with white filler) F3A Standard Wheel Pants. Note that we describe this gear as "straight - back", i.e. the legs are straight and sweep backwards.

| Wheel Pants (Spats) |
|
Unique to Bolly, (although now often copied) is the use of an indentation / location area on the inside of each wheel pant designed to lock into a matching shape at the foot of each undercarriage leg. (57mm WP is plain and will fit any UC).
Bolly GLASS wheel pants are constructed of lightweight glass fibre cloth / epoxy with carbon or aramid fibre reinforcement around the undercarriage / axle mounting area.
Bolly CARBON wheel pants are constructed of carbon fibre cloth / epoxy with kevlar reinforcement at the axle mounting area. The CF wheel pants are not lighter than glass, but much stronger.
We use the DuBro "Spring Steel Axle Shafts" (mainly cat. 248, 2" x 5/32 dia) to attach the undercarriage / wheel and wheel pant together. Our choice of wheels is the Dave Brown - treaded Lite-Flite wheels (our shop sells the 2.25", 2.75" and 3.5" versions). It is important to not use a wheel which is too flexible or wide as they can damage the wheel pants in a heavy landing.
News : All Bolly Wheel Pants are now available in a painted WHITE polyurethane finish with the join line filled. Either leave them white or overspray with any other type of paint to your favourite colour scheme.
All carbon Wheel Pants (spats) are NOW solid black / CF cloth colour / pattern. Please note the photo below is inaccurate, we no longer use white filler as a part of the construction. We will update the pictures soon.
